i can remember these tapes that i bought with allowance money and/or actually dubbed from the library (i seriously checked all of the rem out of the library when i was like 9):
- michael jackson (i don't have these anymore)
- bryan adams (i still have some of these)
- rem (i have all of these and still listen to them. i grew into a big, big fan.)
- u2 (i have some of these)
- barenaked ladies (i just have the one really popular one, still)
- bon jovi (i got rid of these)
- tom cochrane (life is a highway. i found a copy of this in the $1 bin and grabbed it)
- gowan (you're a strange animal. i still have this.)
- weird al yankovic (i don't have any of these anymore)
- grapes of wrath
- inxs
- crash test dummies
and, i can remember the following tapes that richard and his roommate ken made for me:
- genesis (i have almost all of these, today. even the 80s ones.)
- queen (you actually forbid me from playing queen. all i have now is sheer heart attack. but i think it was a night at the opera. and before wayne's world.)
- peter gabriel (these were his pop recordings, but i know him today mostly for his film work and have all his records)
- phil collins (i don't have any solo phil collins records...)
- king crimson (he made me a very difficult mix tape of 60 and 70s stuff that i grew into. i have a couple of them, and would argue i pulled the best stuff out.)
- pink floyd (i also listened to your own floyd tapes. you had the delicate sound of thunder, specifically. i have almost all of them, up to about 1983.)
- tears for fears (shout. shout. let it all out. i still have this.)
- queensryche (that's the one with silent lucidity and i actually still have it.)
- bruce cockburn (if i had a rocket launcher. still have it.)
- various beatles dubs and mixes
- zeppelin I & IV. (i have no zeppelin. i kind of like the guitarist, but i've long despised the singer.)
